    Lumber grading training scheduled for Anchorage

    April 14, 2026

    The Alaska Lumber Grading program will hold a free certification course in Anchorage from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28. The program, part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, is designed to allow small and medium-scale sawmill operators to produce dimension lumber for home construction in Alaska.

    Webinar to review green-up forecast in Interior Alaska

    Tracking birch sap, green-up and pollen in Alaska's boreal forest will be the main topics of a webinar at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 23. Fairbanks has a unique multidecadal record of green-up dates, which has been used to develop techniques for forecasting green-up and related events in Alaska's boreal forest.
